Texas's top running back priority in the 2025 class, Shreveport (LA) Calvary Baptist four-star James Simon, is set to announce on May 29. Simon will decide on May 29 at 12:30 p.m. CT between five finalist schools.

His top five schools that dropped along with the news of his commitment date are the LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas A&M, and Texas.

Texas has been the school setting the pace in this recruitment over the last few months. The momentum on the recruiting trail between Texas RB coach Tashard Choice and Simon really picked up during spring practice.

Simon had a successful unofficial visit he took to Texas for the spring game at DKR on April 19 and 20. It's also noteworthy that the only official visit Simon currently has scheduled is to see Texas on June 21.

That is a telling sign of how much Simon likes Texas that he hasn't scheduled official visits to any other schools this summer. All signs point to Texas being the favorite to win Simon's commitment when he decides in a little over two weeks from now.

If Texas can seal the deal with Simon on May 29, he would be the second running back commit for Choice and the Longhorns in the 2025 class. Texas currently has four-star Tyler (TX) Chapel Hill running back Rickey Stewart Jr. committed in the 2025 class.

Getting Simon and Stewart in this class would likely conclude running back recruiting for Choice and the Longhorns for 2025 before summer official visits are over.
