Predicting Texas's Week 1 two-deep depth chart

Texas has as deep and talented of a depth chart on the two-deep as ever before in the four seasons under head coach Steve Sarkisian entering this fall in the SEC.

Wide receiver

X starter: Isaiah Bond (JR)

X backup: Ryan Wingo (FR)

Texas's wide receiver rotation is probably going to go at least five or six players deep this season. At one of the outside receiver spots, junior Alabama transfer Isaiah Bond is the projected starter over true freshman Ryan Wingo.

Bond's speed is just too great for the Longhorns to keep him out of a starting role in the receiving coprs on offense this season.

Z starter: Johntay Cook II (SO)

Z backup: Matthew Golden (JR)

The reps at the other outside receiver spot opposite of Bond will be more contested between sophomore Johntay Cook II and junior Houston transfer Matthew Golden. Cook has taken the bulk of the first-team practice reps at wideout this fall camp, while Golden has mostly worked with the second-team offense.

H starter: DeAndre Moore Jr. (SO)

H backup: Silas Bolden (SR)

The favorite to be the Week 1 starting slot receiver for the Longhorns is sophomore DeAndre Moore Jr. Moore has been the most willing and best blocker among all the Texas wideouts we've heard about in the last few weeks of fall camp.

Senior Silas Bolden has been a huge sensation for Texas in fall practice. He will get a heavy helping of touches on offense and special teams with the return game this fall.

Tight end

Starter: Gunnar Helm (SR) OR Amari Niblack (JR)

Backup: Juan Davis (SR)

The tight end position is as deep as we've ever seen in during the four years Jeff Banks has been Texas's tight ends coach and special teams coordinator (since 2021). Texas has a dynamic duo projected to start in two-tight end sets for Sarkisian and the Longhorns this fall.

Junior Alabama transfer Amari Niblack is the big-time receiving threat who can give Ewers a large-frame target in the downfield passing game. Senior Gunnar Helm is Texas's best and most proven blocking tight end. He will also play a big role in Texas's passing game to the tight ends this season. Helm is one of the most underrated route runners among any Texas tight end/receiver this fall.
