Steve Sarkisian coaching timeline: Look back at everywhere the Texas HC has coached
By Sam Fariss
Steve Sarkisian is heading back to the SEC but this time as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns instead of being Nick Saban's offensive coordinator at Alabama.
Over his 24-year-long career, Sarkisian has traveled the nation as an assistant, a coordinator, a recruiter, and a head coach.
Before taking over the Longhorn program in 2021, Sarkisian held nearly a dozen other coaching positions across the country.
Here is every job Sark had before Chris Del Conte gave him the job of a lifetime at Texas:
Quarterbacks Coach - El Camino College (JUCO) - 2000
Sarkisian was actually a two-sport athlete when he started his collegiate career, including a position as a baseball player at El Camino Junior College.
The JUCO later gave him his first shot at a coaching career as the team's Quarterbacks Coach at the turn of the century.
Quarterbacks Coach - USC Trojans - 2001-03
Another alma mater of Sarkisian's college career was USC. He also played baseball for the Trojans before focusing on football and transferring to BYU.
The Trojans gave Sark another job as a Quarterbacks Coach, but this time at the Division I level.
Quarterbacks Coach - Oakland Raiders (NFL) - 2004
Sark momentarily left the college level for a one-year stint as the (then) Oakland Raiders' Quarterbacks Coach in 2004.
Quarterbacks Coach - USC - 2005-06
After a year in the big leagues, Sarkisian returned to USC as the QB Coach once again.
Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach - USC - 2007-08
One year after returning to USC, Sarkisian was promoted to the Trojans' Offensive Coordinator while still leading the quarterbacks.
Head Coach - Washington Huskies - 2009-13
Sarkisian's first shot as a head coach was with the Washington Huskies, right up I-5 from USC.
He spent five seasons with the Huskies and finished his stint in Seattle with four winning seasons and a 34-29 overall record.
Head Coach - USC - 2014-15
Sarkisian would return to USC for one final time in 2014 as the Trojans' head coach.
In his first season with the Trojans, Sarkisian and USC went 9-4 and it looked like Sarkisian was on his way to the top of the coaching totem pole.
However, in 2015, Sarkisian's time with USC was cut short when he missed a scheduled practice and the Trojans' AD Pat Haden learned Sark struggled with alcoholism.
Offensive Assistant - Alabama Crimson Tide - 2016
After going through rehab and therapy, Sarkisian returned to the coaching scene as the Alabama Crimson Tide's Offensive Assistant under Nick Saban.
Offensive Coordinator - Atlanta Falcons (NFL) - 2017-18
His second attempt at an NFL career was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 as the team's Offensive Coordinator.
Offensive Coordinator - Alabama - 2019-20
Sarkisian apparently realized that college football was his calling because he quickly returned to Alabama as the Tide's OC for two seasons.
Head Coach - Texas Longhorns - 2021-present
After a highly impressive tenure as Alabama's Offensive Coordinator, Sarkisian was named as the 31st head football coach of the Texas Longhorns.
