Five-star Texas football athlete target and San Antonio (TX) Alamo Heights product Michael Terry III is entering a critical stretch of his recruitment late this summer. Terry is likely to make his decision before the end of August and potentially before the start of his senior season in high school in a few weeks.

While Terry hasn't made his decision timeline public yet, it is expected that he'll announce in the next two or three weeks. His decision has boiled down to a handful of schools he officially visited in the last few months, including the Oregon Ducks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Texas.

Texas has been considered the leader in the race to land his commitment late this summer. But that doesn't mean that Oregon and Nebraska have gone down without a fight for Terry over the last month or so.

Oregon has been prioritizing Terry's recruitment over the last two or three months, especially with how much they've been reaching into the state of Texas for top recruits in this cycle.

But it looks like the real competition in this recruitment for the Longhorns will come from Nebraska. At least with how things have been trending for Terry in the last couple of weeks, Nebraska appears to be a bigger looming threat on the recruiting trail late this summer than Oregon is.

OTF's Gerry Hamilton reported that Nebraska has been making a big push for Terry since he visited Lincoln unofficially before the dead period arrived earlier in the week. Nebraska is throwing a lot at this recruitment following a successful unofficial visit that Terry took to see the Huskers and head coach Matt Rhule on July 29.

Terry has visited Texas multiple times this summer, most recently for an unofficial trip before the dead period in late July for the pool party/BBQ bash roughly 10 days ago. Texas also knocked it out of the park with Terry during his official visit to Austin in early June.

Since Texas and Nebraska have the geographic proximity advantage to Terry's home in San Antonio, TX, the Ducks are fighting an uphill battle in one of the big factors in this recruitment.

That same factor obviously benefits Texas if Terry winds up staying close and announces his commitment to the Longhorns at some point later this month.
