Texas football has made an enormous leap among the top schools in the race to land a commitment from the elite five-star Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin wide receiver Jaime Ffrench Jr. this spring. The former Alabama Crimson Tide commit has been a top priority for head coach Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach Chris Jackson since he re-opened his recruitment back in January.

5-Star WR priority Jaime Ffrench has Texas football as his top choice entering the summer

The Longhorns have been the trendy pick in this recruitment entering summer visits. Sarkisian and staff did a great job selling Ffrench on his fit in this offense and the opportunities UT affords off the field during his unofficial visit to Austin during spring practice in early April.

Ffrench is scheduled to make his first return trip to Austin since early in spring practice for an official visit in late June. He's specifically scheduled to be in Austin for his official visit in that last big weekend for the Longhorns in June (specifically on the weekend of June 21-23).

The top 20 ranked prospect nationally in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is also scheduled to take official visits to see the LSU Tigers (May 31), Miami Hurricanes (June 7), and Tennessee Volunteers (June 14) in the next four weeks.

Texas appears to be the schools setting the pace in Ffrench's recruitment entering his summer officials. He told On3 on May 28 that Texas is his No. 1 school at this point of the offseason. His next two schools rounding out his top three entering the summer are LSU and Miami in that order.

Ffrench specifically mentioned that there is a sizable gap between Texas and the rest of his top schools late this spring. He's got great relationships with Sarkisian and Jackson and maintains consistent communication with both of them.

"Just the love Coach Jackson shows me, every week, Coach Sark, he always shows love, letting me know that I need to be there, that’s all."

The decision timeline for Ffrench will go into August. He wants to make his decision before the start of his senior season this fall, which means he would ideally be ready to commit before late August.

Texas not only has the advantage of holding the momentum in this recruitment entering Ffrench's summer visit circuit, but they also get the last official trip for him among those scheduled for the remainder of the offseason. Getting the opportunity to give that final pitch during Ffrench's official visits in June can give Sarkisian and staff a big leg up before he makes his decision.
