On March 7, former Texas basketball target and five-star Montverde Academy forward Liam McNeeley decommitted from the Indiana Hoosiers. A report from 247Sports on March 7 indicates that McNeeley subsequently requested a release from his letter of intent at Indiana.

McNeeley was the only committed that head coach Mike Woodson and the Hoosiers held in their 2024 class. He committed to Indiana over the Longhorns, Kansas Jayhawks, Michigan Wolverines, and Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 15, 2023.

Kansas and Indiana were the final two schools in contention to get McNeeley's commitment last fall.

During the Early Signing Period last November, McNeeley signed his letter of intent to play for Indiana. After he decommitted from Indiana on March 7, McNeeley is now the highest-rated uncommitted high school recruit in the 2024 class.

Indiana is expected to continue to be involved in this recruitment through the whistle since McNeeley was so an integral part of the program's future. Although, Kansas and head coach Bill Self probably have the most buzz in this recruitment after McNeeley's decommitment from the Hoosiers earlier this week.

Other schools, such as Texas, Oklahoma, and Michigan, among others, will likely at least kick the tires in this recruitment to gauge McNeeley's interest in each suitor on the trail entering the spring.

Texas was heavily involved among the top schools in the race to land a commitment from McNeeley last offseason. He visited Austin multiple times and built a good relationship with Texas head coach Rodney Terry.

The last trip McNeeley took to Texas was an official visit in late April last year. He also took official visits to Indiana and Kansas in the last couple of years.

Terry and the Longhorns currently have three high school recruits signed in the 2024 class. Five-star Dallas (TX) Link Academy shooting guard Tre Johnson is the crown jewel of the Longhorns 2024 signing class. Johnson is the No. 6 rated recruit nationally in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 2 shooting guard.

Texas also holds commitments in the 2024 class from five-star Lexington (SC) shooting guard Cam Scott and high-four-star Carrollton (TX) Newman Smith power forward Nic Codie.
