Texas C Jake Majors held out of today's scrimmage due to injury
Texas football just completed its second scrimmage of fall camp on the afternoon of Aug. 17. Among the major injury notes coming out of the second and final scrimmage of fall camp, at least for precautionary reasons, was a reported ankle injury for senior center Jake Majors.
One injury update for Texas football C Jake Majors after the second and final preseason camp scrimmage today
OTF's Bobby Burton and CJ Vogel reported on Aug. 17 that Majors was held out of the scrimmage due to the ankle injury for the first-team offensive line for the Longhorns today. Majors was reportedly in a "precautionary boot" in Saturday's fall scrimmage.
We mentioned in a piece on the site earlier this afternoon that senior interior offensive lineman Hayden Conner shifted over from left guard to the center position to with the first-team offensive line in today's scrimmage. It also sounds like redshirt sophomore Connor Robertson got a few first-team reps at center with the interior offensive line rotating in for the scrimmage today.
It's also noteworthy that junior offensive lineman Cole Hutson took the bulk of the first-team reps in Conner's usual spot at left guard in the scrimmage and goal line work.
Most of the first-team reps along the offensive line for the Longhorns in today's scrimmage were Kelvin Banks Jr., Hutson, Conner/Robertson, DJ Campbell, and Cam Williams from left to right.
Regarding Majors' injury status moving forward, most indications from various practice and scrimmage reports indicate that he should be ready for the regular season opener in a couple of weeks at DKR against Colorado State.
It makes a lot of sense that head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff are being very cautious with all the injury issues they've had of late in preseason camp. Texas has already lost two running backs due to season-ending lower-body injuries in the past couple of weeks of preseason camp, including sophomore CJ Baxter Jr. (knee) and true freshman Christian Clark (Achilles).
The good news for the Longhorns is that they didn't suffer any injuries today during the scrimmage. Texas went through the scrimmage today with live tackling for the first half and was more of a competitive walkthrough pace for the second half.
