Texas football had multiple players selected to the annual "Freaks List" from The Athletic's Bruce Feldman over the last few years. Ahead of the 2024 season, senior edge rusher Barryn Sorrell was selected to Feldman's Freaks List.

Barryn Sorrell is the only Texas football player to make the Freaks List for 2024

Sorrell ranked as the 79th "freakiest" college football athlete on Feldman's list for the 2024 season.

Feldman notes Sorrell clocking in a speed of above 19 mph in live-game action last fall for the Longhorns. He's got impressive measurements and testing numbers that makes Sorrell one of the best all-around athletes among all Texas defenders this year.

"Texas coaches are excited for Sorrell to take his game to another level after he had a terrific offseason. Sorrell bench pressed 425 pounds, squatted 575 and power cleaned 355, but coaches say the most impressive number is his explosive burst for his size. He consistently has registered 20 mph on the Catapult system."

The 6-foot-4 and 260-pound edge rusher shows those athletic traits with a motor and consistent effort that doesn't stop, regardless if he's rushing the passer or defending the run/chasing down the ball carrier. Sorrell is lanky enough and has good hands to get around opposing blockers when he's trying to get after the quarterback.

His length and closing speed also make him a force to be reckoned with as a run defender who seals the EDGE effectively and can quickly chase down the ball carrier in the open field.

Sorrell has been one of Texas's most productive pass rushers and EDGE run defenders since 2022. He's registered over 70 quarterback pressures, and three dozen run stops for the Longhorns' defensive front since the start of the 2022 season, which leads all Texas defenders among returning players for this fall.

Earlier this year, former Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II was named to the Freaks List by Feldman for the 2024 NFL Combine.

Murphy and running back Roschon Johnson are among the handful of other Longhorns players who were named to Feldman's Freaks List in the last couple of years.
