Texas has 'quiet optimism' with 4-Star OT Nick Brooks

Arguably Texas's top out-of-state offensive tackle priority for the 2025 recruiting cycle, 4-Star Nick Brooks, is reportedly high on the Longhorns coming out of summer official visits.

Offensive line recruiting has gone well so far for Texas football and Kyle Flood in the 2025 class this summer. Texas has landed four of its top in-state offensive line targets in the 2025 class in the last few months while essentially closing the book on IOL recruiting before the end of the summer.

Recruiting at the offensive tackle position is the primary focus now for Flood and the Longhorns in the 2025 class as of mid-July. Texas has prioritized key in-state and out-of-state targets at offensive tackle who visited in June, including Lewisville (TX) four-star Michael Fasusi and Cedar Rapids (IA) John F. Kennedy four-star Nick Brooks.

The latter of those two key offensive tackle targets for the Longhorns in the 2025 class could be moving closer to a decision soon. Brooks doesn't have a public decision timeline as of the writing of this article early this week, but he does appear to be narrowing down his options to a group of two or three schools at this point of the offseason.

Horns247's Hank South reports on July 15 (paid content) that the Georgia Bulldogs, USC Trojans, and Texas (listed in no particular order) are the top group in the race to land Brooks' commitment this summer.

Since summer official visits wrapped up in June, Texas and Georgia have been the two schools with the most buzz in Brooks' recruitment. Georgia looked to be the frontrunner for Brooks as recently as last month following a successful early-June official visit to Athens.

But it appears that the Longhorns have made a successful late push in this recruitment after hosting Brooks for two visits over a span of three months between April and June of this year. Flood and RB coach Tashard Choice are doing a tremendous job spearheading the Brooks recruitment for the Longhorns this summer.

Texas reportedly has "quiet optimism" regarding where its chances lie to win this recruitment whenever Brooks is ready to announce.

It's worth noting that among the four schools Brooks officially visited during the summer, the Iowa Hawkeyes are the only one that looks to be out of the running at this point. Brooks was once committed to Iowa, but the Hawkeyes have fallen back in this recruitment to the point where it doesn't look like a legitimate threat to any of the top three schools entering late summer on the trail.
