Possibly the biggest headliner among the unofficial visitors Texas football hosted from the 2025 recruiting class for the late July pool party/BBQ bash event on Thursday was the elite five-star Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams.

Texas football still in the mix for 5-Star S priority Jonah Williams ahead of his late-August decision

The No. 1 safety recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the On3 Industry Ranking made what could be one of the last visits he takes before his late-August decision date (Aug. 24). It was also Williams' first unofficial visit to Austin since spring practice back in early April.

"Just sitting down and talking with Coach Sark. Talked a lot about ball and my projection."

Jonah Williams on his Texas visit

The early returns from Williams' trip to Texas a few days ago were pretty positive from what we've heard late this week and this weekend. Williams liked getting to see the practice session for Texas on Thursday afternoon (July 25), and spent some time one-on-one conversing with head coach Steve Sarkisian. He also got to talk over the phone with new baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle during his visit on July 25.

A little less than a month out from his Aug. 24 commitment date, Williams had some positive things to say about where Texas stands in his recruitment in general late this summer. He told On3's Steve Wiltfong this week that Texas "has always been a sleeper for him" after "no one thought I was still interested in Texas" this summer.

While Texas didn't get an official visit from Williams this summer, the Longhorns were still included among his top five finalist schools he'll decade between in late August. The other schools he included in his top five are the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, and USC Trojans.

LSU, Oregon, and Texas A&M have been the three schools with the most buzz in this recruitment throughout most of the summer this offseason. But Texas was able to make up some ground with Williams coming out of what has to be considered a successful unofficial visit to Austin for the pool party/BBQ bash event earlier in the week.

Texas is still very much alive to win this recruitment for Williams as he ponders his final decision over the next few weeks before his announcement in late August.
