Texas makes top group for 5-Star G target Jazzy Davidson
Head coach Vic Schaefer has Texas women's basketball heavily involved in the pursuit of multiple top guard recruits in the nation on the trail for the 2025 class this summer.
Texas women's basketball makes the final 6 schools for elite 2025 G Jazzy Davidson
Per 247Sports, Texas has cracked the top six finalist schools for the No. 2 guard recruit in the nation in the 2025 class, Clackamas (OR) five-star Jazzy Davidson. Her other top schools to round out the top five are the TCU Horned Frogs, USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins, Duke Blue Devils, and UConn Huskies.
Davidson said in this report that she's currently "focused on scheduling official visits" entering the fall. That said, it doesn't sound like Davidson is rushing her decision. She is taking her time with her decision timeline, which could be drawn out to the winter or next spring.
"Coach Vic is a great coach and they've made it to the Elite 8 during the past 6 years. They're on the come up."
The trajectory that Schaefer has the Longhorns on with multiple recent solid postseason runs, including making it to the Elite 8 last season, has Davidson's attention. It's a big factor to Davidson in her recruitment that she's able to play for a program that's trending up. So, the Longhorns being able to make another deep postseason run could really help them in this recruitment for Davidson.
I'd expect Davidson to take official visits to all of her top six schools at some point during the fall or in the winter during the college basketball season.
According to ESPN, Davidson is the No. 2 guard and the No. 3 overall prospect in the nation for the 2025 cycle.
On Tuesday, Texas made the final six schools for the No. 1 recruit in the nation in the class of 2025 (according to ESPN and On3), five-star Lubbock (TX) Monterey guard Aaliyah Chavez. Chavez also included the Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, UCLA, and Texas Tech Red Raiders among her group of top six schools.
Texas's recent results on the recruiting trail for the 2024 class and the build-up for the 2025 class have generated a lot of excitement around the program this offseason. If Schaefer lands either one of Chavez or Davidson, that would be a massive boost talent-wise for the Longhorns in the SEC in the next couple of years.
