Coming out of the bye week, Texas football is back up to No. 1 in the latest AP Poll, entering the Red River Rivalry game against the No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Brent Venables on Oct. 12. Texas is considered by most sportsbooks around the time of the opening odds for the rivalry matchup at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas next weekend to be a heavy favorite.

At least by the usual considerations for this rivalry game, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are favored by much more than you would expect. Especially given the weird outcomes and how the Red River Rivalry game always seems to be able to throw logic out of the window, it's pretty surprising to see a ranked matchup favoring the Longhorns by multiple touchdowns.

Texas is the only remaining undefeated team entering Week 7 in the SEC after a massive weekend of upsets around the college football landscape on Oct. 5. The Longhorns will be a primary point of focus for avid college football fans this weekend, especially with the anticipated return of redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers from an abdominal strain injury for Red River on Oct. 12.

Sarkisian is 1-2 against OU during his time at Texas dating back to 2021. This will obviously be a really important game for Sarkisian to win as the head coach of the Longhorns against OU next weekend.

Here’s a look at the opening betting odds for the Week 7 matchup in Red River between No. 1 Texas and No. 18 Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fairgrounds in Dallas, TX, on Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
