Texas football recruiting has been on an absolute heater on the trail late this summer for the 2025 class, adding another five-star commitment to their haul this month that is filled with elite blue-chip talent. On Aug. 31, the elite five-star Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin wide receiver Jaime Ffrench became the third five-star commitment to join Texas's 2025 class during the month of August.

5-Star WR Jaime Ffrench adds to Texas football's insane 2025 haul on the trail in August

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff have also landed five-star commitments from Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams and Sachse (TX) wide receiver Kaliq Lockett in the past few weeks in August for the 2025 class. Sarkisian has a big series of wins on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class late this summer, as the Longhorns' class ranks

Ffrench committed to the Longhorns over the LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, and Tennessee Volunteers on Friday morning during an announcement ceremony at his high school.

Texas really gained a lot of traction in this recruitment after Sarkisian and WR coach Chris Jackson offered Ffrench during the spring evaluation period early in the 2024 offseason. Ffrench, a former Alabama Crimson Tide commitment, had a great experience during his first unofficial visit to Austin in April during spring practice after Texas offered him in late January.

He also had a successful official visit to Texas in mid June, which cemented the Longhorns spot as one of the top schools in his recruitment during the summer on the trail.

The relationships Jackson and Sarkisian cultivated with Ffrench and his family were big factors that led to the elite wide receiver recruit from Florida ultimately choosing the Longhorns for his college decision today. Building the culture the Longhorns have in the locker room entering the SEC in 2024 and the fit in Sarkisian's offense at wideout were also big driving factors that led Ffrench to commit to Texas.

Ffrench told 247Sports that his "recruitment is 110 percent done" and that he is "Texas all the way" after his announcement on Aug. 30.

Texas gets another top-priority WR target for 2025 in the boat

The 6-foot-1 and 185-pound Ffrench gives the Longhorns another elite and versatile talent at the wide receiver position that will ensure Sarkisian's offense is stockpiled full of skill talent well into the future. Texas's receiving corps is absolutely loaded for the next few years, including five-star talents like Ffrench, Lockett, and true freshman Ryan Wingo.

What Ffrench brings to Texas specifically is a great technical wideout with polished route-running ability, consistently good hands, and tremendous speed and acceleration. While Ffrench measures in at 6-foot-1, he is able to play much bigger than that in the receiving game.

Ffrench has a large catch radius thanks to his combination of good body control, lengthy wingspan, and verticality. He's got the ability to bring down those tough contested 50/50 balls on the outside while also making acrobatic catches in tight windows to snag the ball away from contesting defenders working between the numbers or in double coverage.

The type of versatility and athleticism Ffrench brings makes him a very threatening playmaker who can generate explosive plays at almost every level of the field. He's a big play threat out in space, getting the ball in his hands in the screen and short passing game.

But Ffrench can also take the top off opposing defenses with his ability to create separation and get off the line quickly.

Ffrench isn't your average burner that you'll find among the fastest wideouts in Sarkisian's offense. But he is elusive in space and accelerates very fast in and out of his breaks and at the start of his routes. He's efficient with his movements in space and running routes and has very quick feet to help with his cutting and elusiveness in the open field.

Areas of improvement

The two things that stick out to me from watching film on Ffrench in high school games and on the 7v7 circuit in the last year or so regarding areas he could improve are with his concentration and blocking. Ffrench does have a few tough drops on his film where it looks like he loses focus on the football.

Hand placement and physicality as an outside blocker at wideout is also something Ffrench will need to technically improve in the next 12 months.

Projection and fit at Texas

There is no question that Ffrench projects as a high level multi-year starter at wideout for the Longhorns' offense. Ffrench's development curve also probably projects him out to be a future early-to-middle round NFL Draft pick one day.

Ffrench can be a gamebreaker for the Longhorns' receiving corps in multiple ways. He could play on the boundary or at the x spot to take advantage of his versatility and playmaking at receiver.
