As the recruitment of three-star Suwanee (GA) North Gwinnett defensive lineman and Rutgers Scarlet Knights commit Braxton Kyle heats up late this summer on the trail, Texas football threw its hat in the ring this weekend.

Texas football identifies another possible DL flip target in 3-Star Rutgers commit Braxton Kyle

Kyle announced in a post on his X account on Aug. 18 that he has received an offer from the Longhorns.

The 6-foot-4 and 320-pound defensive tackle from Georgia is the latest defensive line among a handful of defensive line offers the Longhorns have extended to out-of-state targets in the 2025 class this week. All three offers among defensive tackles in the 2025 class for the Longhorns this week are to recruits from the state of Georgia, too.

The other two defensive tackles the Longhorns offered this week were Milton (GA) three-star/Arkansas Razorbacks commit Caleb Bell and Loganville (GA) Grayson three-star/Florida Gators commit Joseph Mbatchou.

While it is a bit surprising to see the Longhorns and Kenny Baker offer a Rutgers commit, taking one look at the recent schools to offer Kyle provides a quick answer here. In the last few weeks, Kyle has received offers from the Georgia Bulldogs, North Carolina Tar Heels, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and now also Texas.

I don't know how hard any of these recent schools that offered Kyle will push for him on the recruiting trail to try and flip his commitment from Rutgers entering the fall in the 2025 class. But I do know the Longhorns have been working hard to find other possible flip targets to offer among underrated defensive linemen from the Southeast in the last week or so.

Kyle is a big-bodied defensive lineman with good power and strength. From what I've seen on film, his Hudl highlights from high school show that he has improved his fundamentals and pad-level approach. If he continues to impress and rack up the big-time offers from P4 schools this fall on the recruiting trail, Kyle will be someone to watch moving forward for the Longhorns in the 2025 class among possible out-of-state flip targets to fill out this defensive line for this cycle.

Texas currently has one four-star defensive lineman committed in the 2025 class late this summer. But it's looking to add two or three more bodies along the defensive line for this cycle after it only took three and lost one of them during winter enrollment earlier this offseason from the 2024 signing class.
