Ex-Texas football CB Terrance Brooks transfers to Illinois

The commitment from Brooks comes after he visited Champaign, IL, to see head coach Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini on May 10. He was also scheduled to visit the Michigan Wolverines and USC Trojans in the coming week.

The No. 11 transfer cornerback in the 247Sports Composite spent two seasons at Texas before entering the transfer portal following the conclusion of spring camp. Brooks was Texas's starting field cornerback last season and was the only Longhorns player with double-digit starts to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Brooks took over 700 defensive snaps since 2022 for the Longhorns, coming over 25 games played and 16 starts. He was one of the starters that helped the Longhorns win the Big 12 Championship and make the program's first-ever College Football Playoff appearance during the 2023-24 season.

In two seasons at Texas, Brooks registered 29 combined tackles, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, six defensive stops, and one quarterback pressure. His three interceptions last season tied for the most on the team for Texas.

Brooks was among the highest-rated defensive prospects who signed with the Longhorns in the 2022 class, which ranked fifth nationally in the 247Sports Composite. The former high-four-star recruit from Little Elm High School in Texas ranked as the No. 83 prospect nationally in the 2022 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 10 cornerback, and No. 14 from Texas.

Multiple former Texas DBs finding homes at other P5 schools this spring

Two Texas transfer defensive backs that entered the portal this spring have found new homes at other Power Five schools, Brooks and junior nickel Austin Jordan. Jordan is staying in-state after he committed to the TCU Horned Frogs to stay in the Big 12.

Texas added former San Jose State Spartans sophomore transfer cornerback Jay'Vion Cole to replenish the secondary depth from the portal. Cole is expected to compete with senior Gavin Holmes for starting reps at field corner entering preseason camp.
