Texas transfer target Damonic Williams announcing next week?
The clear-cut top priority target in the NCAA Transfer Portal this spring for Texas football is former TCU Horned Frogs junior transfer defensive tackle Damonic Williams. The Honorable Mention All-Big 12 defensive lineman is one of the most highly sought-after players at a big position of need in the portal during the spring window.
Priority Texas football DL transfer Damonic Williams could announce his decision next week
Williams has already taken official visits to three schools as of the writing of this article late this weekend. He first visited Norman to see head coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners last weekend.
Texas was the second school to get an official visit from Williams. The Longhorns reportedly "checked all the boxes" for Williams during his multi-day trip to Austin a few days ago.
The buzz surrounding this portal recruitment in the last few days is that Texas is setting the pace with Oklahoma still in the mix among the schools Williams has already visited.
The most recent school Williams officially visited was the Mizzou Tigers. He just wrapped up a trip to Columbia to see Mizzou this weekend.
Remaining on the docket for Williams will be one or two more official visits before it sounds like he could be ready to announce his decision. Williams is set to begin his visit to Baton Rouge to see head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers on April 28.
On Texas Football's Gerry Hamilton reported on April 28 that LSU is currently considered the biggest threat to Texas and Oklahoma in this portal recruitment. LSU is making Williams a top priority at defensive tackle in the portal this spring.
A decision from Williams is reportedly expected after his visit to Baton Rouge wraps up in the next couple of days. It sounds like a midweek announcement on May 1 or 2 could be a realistic timeline to expect a decision from Williams.
Texas seeking multiple DL transfers this spring
Texas has already added one defensive tackle transfer during the spring portal window. Former Arizona Wildcats and Georgia Bulldogs senior grad transfer defensive tackle Bill Norton committed to the Longhorns after a multi-day visit to Austin last weekend.
New defensive line coach Kenny Baker and the Longhorns are still looking for at least one more instant impact defensive tackle in the portal this spring to add depth along the front seven entering the SEC this coming fall.
