Texas vs. Colorado State full injury report for Week 1
In the last few weeks, No. 4 Texas football has kept a pretty clean bill of health to close out fall practice. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said earlier this week in a press conference that they aren't dealing with any new injuries entering the regular season opener on Aug. 31 against the Colorado State Rams.
Texas's season opener against Colorado State will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on Aug. 31 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.
Here's a look at the full injury report for the Week 1 matchup between Texas and Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at DKR.
Texas football injury report vs. Colorado State
CJ Baxter Jr., RB (Out)
Christian Clark, RB (Out)
Texas is down two scholarship running backs for the entire 2024 season due to lower-body injuries they suffered in fall practice. Sophomore CJ Baxter Jr. suffered a season-ending PCL tear early in fall camp. Baxter had successful surgery on his knee last week and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2025 season for the Longhorns.
Last season, Baxter rushed for 659 yards and five touchdowns. Baxter also racked up 24 catches for 156 receiving yards during his true freshman campaign.
With Baxter out, junior running back Jaydon Blue is the starter in the backfield for the Longhorns entering the regular season. Blue rushed for 398 yards and three touchdowns. He also registered 14 catches for 135 receiving yards and one touchdown catch.
True freshman Christian Clark is the other Longhorns' running back who is out for the entire season due to a lower-body injury. Clark suffered a torn Achilles on a non-contact play in team drills during preseason camp.
Colorado State injury report vs. Texas
Nuer Gatkuoth, DE (Out)
Jaxxon Warren, TE (Out)
According to the Coloradoan, redshirt sophomore defensive end Nuer Gatkuoth will miss Week 1 for Colorado State due to a turf toe injury. That is a sizable absence for the Colorado State defense, as Gatkuoth is one of the most productive returning players along the Rams' front seven this season.
The other significant injury Colorado State is dealing with entering the regular season opener this weekend is sophomore tight end Jaxxon Warren. The big 6-foot-8 and 240-pound tight end and JUCO transfer that hails from Flower Mound, TX, is out for the Texas game due to a shoulder injury coming out of fall camp.
