In the final non-conference game in September before SEC play, No. 1 Texas football will start redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning against the UL-Monroe Warhawks at home at DKR on Sep. 21. Manning is getting the first start of his collegiate career, with redshirt junior starting quarterback Quinn Ewers sidelined due to an abdominal strain injury he suffered early in the second quarter of last weekend's win at home over the UTSA Roadrunners.

It was expected throughout the week that Manning would be the starting quarterback for the ULM game on Sep. 21 to make sure Ewers is healthy for SEC play over the next few weeks.

Ewers is expected to be listed as "questionable" on the first injury report of the regular season for next weekend's SEC opener against Mississippi State on Sep. 28. The latest we'd expect Ewers to make his return from the abdominal strain injury is for the Red River Rivalry game on Oct. 12 against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Manning was impressive in his duties coming on in relief of the injured Ewers in the 56-7 win over UTSA last weekend. He completed 75 percent of his pass attempts for over 200 passing yards, over 50 rushing yards, and five total touchdowns, along with zero turnovers.

Texas is a very heavy favorite against an undefeated and well-coached ULM squad led by first-year head coach Bryan Vincent by 44.5 points roughly seven hours before kickoff between these two teams on Sep. 21 (per FanDuel).

ESPN's matchup predictor gives the Longhorns a 99 percent chance of winning this game against ULM.
