In May, the SEC announced the home-and-away conference opponents for the newly expanded, 16-team conference.

Every team in the SEC will play its 15 conference opponents at least once a year, playing three of them twice per season.

Joining the conference for the first time in 2024, the Texas Longhorns will have to face a handful of formidable opponents on an annual basis.

As the Horns settle into their new home conference, which teams can Texas already expect to blow past in 2024? Which SEC teams may already have the Horns in their rearview mirror?

Texas men’s basketball home conference opponents

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Auburn
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Missouri
  • Oklahoma
  • Tennessee
  • Texas A&M

Homecourt advantage is the real deal in Austin. When the beautiful, new Moody Center was constructed for the Longhorns, it gave the team a huge boost for matchups at home.

While the Horns should be able to easily handle Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, and Oklahoma at home, Texas’ other home matchups will be more difficult.

Auburn and Alabama finished near the top of the SEC last season and returned many of their star players. Arkansas, now led by legendary head coach John Calipari, is filled to the brim with elite ball players.

Tennessee and Texas A&M will most likely best the Horns at home but it will be a fight until the end for both games.

Texas men’s basketball away conference opponents

  • Arkansas
  • Florida
  • LSU
  • Ole Miss
  • Mississippi State
  • South Carolina
  • Texas A&M
  • Vanderbilt

On the road, Texas will struggle to find its footing in the SEC. The Longhorns will almost certainly fall to Arkansas and Texas A&M when they visit the Razorbacks and Aggies.

Florida, LSU, and Vanderbilt will most likely be toss-ups with minimal surprise at either team walking way with the victory.

Texas should be able to handle Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and South Carolina as the Horns visit the three SEC opponents for the first time during conference play.
