Xavier Worthy breaks record for 40-yard dash at NFL Combine
Texas football wide receiver Xavier Worthy made history at the 2024 NFL Combine. Worthy broke the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time in the history of the NFL Combine, timing in at 4.21 seconds.
Texas football's Xavier Worthy shatters social media and the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record
Worthy broke the record originally held by the former Washington Huskies wide receiver John Ross, who ran a 4.22 second 40-yard dash time at the 2017 NFL Combine.
The unofficial time for Worthy's second run was 4.22 seconds. But the official time (per the NFL.com combine results tracker) came in at 4.21 seconds for his second 40-yard dash, narrowly breaking the record previously held by Ross.
Worthy's first run, officially timed at 4.25 seconds, for the 40-yard dash, already set the pace as the fastest among all combine participants. Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins held the fastest 40-yard dash time before Worthy broke the overall record on Day 3 of the combine events.
Mitchell and Worthy shine at the combine
Fellow Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell also had one of the best 40-yard dash times of all the combine participants this week. Mitchell clocked in an official 4.34-second 40-yard dash, the third fastest of all wide receivers in the 2024 combine.
Worthy and Mitchell easily boosted their draft stock with their performances at the combine this weekend. Mitchell not only had the third-fastest 40-yard dash time among wide receivers, but he also led the group with the best broad jump (11-foot-4).
Worthy, meanwhile, registered the fastest 40-yard dash time in combine history and had the best 40-yard split (1.49 seconds) among all wide receivers this year.
We knew Worthy would be fast in these events entering the combine this week. But no one was really prepared to see him break the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time in combine history.
There is a good chance that Worthy and Mitchell cemented their status as Day 1 picks in the NFL Draft next month with their insane performances at the combine.
