Predicting Texas's next transfer commit after Jack Bouwmeester
The first week of the winter NCAA Transfer Portal window has to be considered a success for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas has done a nice job of retaining key starters and contributors on the two-deep depth chart on both sides of the ball.
Winter portal window starts with an important specialist pickup for Texas football in Utah grad transfer Jack Bouwmeester
Eight Longhorns players have announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal this week. Texas also got good news with the return of one key defensive lineman, redshirt freshman defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell, who will be coming back for another season after initially announcing he was going to enter the transfer portal.
Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff have not only done a nice job of roster management and player retention with this portal cycle, but they've also hit the ground running targeting top players at positions of need on the transfer market this week.
Texas landed its first portal commitment of this transfer cycle on Dec. 13, former Utah Utes senior grad transfer All-Big 12 punter Jack Bouwmeester. Jeff Banks and the Longhorns upgraded the special teams unit with the pickup of Bouwmeester to bring more stability to the punting game.
Here's a prediction of the next transfer commitment for the Longhorns after Bouwmeester on Dec. 13.
Max Klare, TE
The first portal visitor who was reported on campus for the Longhorns this week was former Purdue Boilermakers redshirt sophomore tight end Max Klare. It sounds like Texas really knocked it out of the park with Klare during his trip to Texas yesterday.
Texas is the only visit Klare has taken since entering his name into the portal earlier this week. He also hasn't scheduled any other trips to other schools beside Texas.
This has been a busy week for Banks recruiting immediate impact players at positions of need in the tight end and special teams rooms for the Longhorns. Could Klare be the next immediate impact portal addition for the Longhorns in the winter transfer window?
