Predicting where Texas will land in first College Football Playoff bracket reveal of 2026

Have the Texas Longhorns done enough to earn a place in the first CFP bracket of the season?

While the Texas Longhorns have had an absolute rollercoaster of a season, they seem to be back on track and were, at the very least, back in the top 10 of the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

So, with the first College Football Playoff bracket of the year being revealed on Tuesday night, should the 6-2 Horns expect to be included in the elite group of teams projected to make the postseason tournament?

CFP Bracket prediction before the 1st rankings are released

For the first time in a long time, we may see another conference tie the SEC and the Big Ten for the number of teams included in the CFP bracket, with the Big 12 putting up quite a few impressive performances so far this season.

  1. Miami Hurricanes (7-0) - ACC
  2. Utah Utes (8-0) - Big 12
  3. Georgia Bulldogs (7-1) - SEC
  4. UCLA Bruins (8-0) - Big Ten
  5. Indiana Hoosiers (8-1) - Big Ten
  6. BYU Cougars (7-1) - Big 12
  7. Kentucky Wildcats (7-1) - SEC
  8. Texas Longhorns (6-2) -SEC
  9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-1) - IND
  10. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-2) - Big Ten
  11. Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-1) - Big 12
  12. Boise State Broncos (7-1) - Pac-12

FIRST FOUR OUT: Ole Miss Rebels, Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans, Wake Forest Demon Deacons

I fully expect the Longhorns to claim a top-10 spot in the 12-team bracket, despite having lost to the then-unranked Oklahoma Sooners and the Florida Gators.

Even with those losses on their resume, the Horns have cemented themselves as the only team with three ranked wins so far this season, separating their strength of resume from the rest of the field.

Because of the weight that the "Texas Longhorns" name seems to always carry with the College Football Playoff committee, I think the voters are going to focus more heavily on Texas's marquee wins than its upset losses.

Alongside Texas in the CFP bracket from the SEC will most likely be the Georgia Bulldogs (who are currently No. 2 in the AP Poll) and none other than the Kentucky Wildcats (who have stunned the world this season).

The Big Ten will also have three teams making the cut, with UCLA, Indiana, and Ohio State earning spots, as will the Big 12, with Utah, BYU, and Texas Tech all making the cut. Then, the Miami Hurricanes will be the ACC's lone representative.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be the lone independent team to appear in the bracket (as is seemingly becoming tradition) and the Boise State Broncos will get the Group of 6 bid to represent the Pac-12 (and all the other "little" guys).
