Dylan Disu, C
The other half of Texas's top scoring duo from last season was senior big man Dylan Disu. Together, Disu and Abmas counted for over 40 percent of the Longhorns' total team scoring, as the team heavily relied on the inside-out connection for its consistent offensive production from the paint and beyond the arc.
Disu arrived at Texas via the transfer portal a couple of offseasons before Abmas transferred from Oral Roberts to the Forty Acres with the Longhorns. But Disu was on a minute restriction while he was rehabbing from a season-ending knee injury he suffered in his final season at Vanderbilt before transferring to Texas during the 2021 offseason.
He made an instant impact on the Longhorns after making his first start scoring in double figures for Texas in the regular season opener in 2022-23 against the UTEP Miners. Disu provided crucial rim protection, rebounding, and paint scoring for the Longhorns in three dozen starts.
But Disu really took off in February and March 2023, getting scorching hot starting in the Big 12 Tournament. He won the Big 12 Tournament MVP honors after leading the Longhorns to the conference tournament crown.
Disu became the second Longhorns player in the past two decades to score over 15 points in four consecutive conference and NCAA Tournament games in March Madness, joining Texas great Kevin Durant in that regard.
I can still remember Disu's scorching hot offensive performance, with a career-high 28 points in Texas's
Had it not been for Disu's red-hot start to the NCAA Tournament in the first two rounds for the Longhorns, I don't think Texas would've defeated an underrated 15-seed Colgate and Penn State in the Rounds of 64 and 32. Disu scored a combined 45 points in the Round of 64 and 32.
The 2023 Big 12 Tournament MVP and NCAA Tournament All-Region honoree returned to school for his final year of eligibility. Disu rode that momentum into the 2023-24 season, averaging a career-high 15.5 points per game and five rebounds on an insane 45.1 percent shooting from three-point range.
The 2023-24 season was Disu's best of his collegiate career, where he earned All-Big 12 First-Team honors for the Longhorns. Disu leveraged his diversified offensive skill set to become one of the best scoring bigs in the major conferences. He could score from anywhere on the floor in the settled half-court offense.
Whenever the Longhorns were struggling to score the basketball, Disu and Abmas did the best they could to pick up the slack for Texas on the offensive end. Disu was especially a big shot in the arm for the Longhorns in the previous two postseasons and Big 12 Tournaments.
