Texas softball is off to a hot start in 2026, advancing to 5-1 on the season after defeating Abilene Christian last night 11-0. Though this season's team is full of All-American players, Reese Atwood stands out amongst them all.
The senior catcher has been playing lights out for HC Mike Smith from the moment that she stepped foot on the field for Texas as a true freshman. She's consistently been one of the top-ranked catchers in the sport for at least two seasons now, and her ability to drive balls deep as a hitter is unmatched.
As of around 8:30pm last night, Atwood now officially holds the Texas program record for most career homeruns as she bombed her 59th career homer against the Wildcats.

With her 59th career homerun, Reese Atwood is now the Texas Home Run Record Holder

It was an incredibly welcome and deserving record for Atwood, as she's been a constant source of leadership and support for her teammates every week.
Very few players in the league are as all-around talented as Atwood is in terms of what she can do as both a hitter and catcher, and it goes without saying that she has the potential to break even more records for the Longhorns this year.
She was named to multiple All-Conference, All-American, and national award watchlists leading up to the season, and if she continues playing like she is, I have no doubt that she'll be named All-Everything at the end of the year.
The Longhorns face Ohio State today at Red & Charline McCombs Field in a heavyweight bout with the Buckeyes in the Bevo Classic.
