We're officially on the fourth full day of the 2026 transfer portal period, and Texas just lost PF Nic Codie, SG Simeon Wilcher, and PF Camden Heide in the last 24 hours. To be honest, Codie was really the only "surprise" here as he recently told the media that he'll be playing for the Longhorns next year.

Regardless of the actual reasoning for their vacancies, Sean Miller and Co. have to focus on what's ahead and how they're now going to add multiple guards and forwards to the team. This is where somebody like Iowa's Alvaro Folgueiras could come into the picture for Texas.

The Spanish big man's ready for a much larger role

The 6'9", 230-pound power forward from Spain spent two seasons at Robert Morris University before transferring to Iowa in 2025, where he spent the majority of the year as a rotational forward for the Hawkeyes. Though he only averaged 8.4 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 2.2 APG during the regular season, Folgueiras played incredibly well with more minutes throughout the NCAA Tournament.

He averaged 14 or more points against Clemson, Florida, and Nebraska in March Madness this year and played a massive role as an off-ball player in those games as well. When someone like
Folgueiras can drift outside and consistently hit short-range jumpers and drive to the hoop in space, it forces defenders to flock to him immediately and vacate the paint for cutters.

The idea of adding Folgueiras to Texas' frontcourt alongside Matas Vokietaitis is incredibly intriguing, and there's a good chance that the team has already reached out to the Spanish big man by now.

One thing's for sure: the Longhorns are going to be dropping some serious NIL money this offseason in order to basically build out the team from scratch now that Tramon Mark, Jordan Pope, Dailyn Swain, Nic Codie, Simeon Wilcher, and Camden Heide are all out the door.
