With elite recruiting classes, top-tier transfer portal pickups, and a run to the Sweet 16, head coach Sean Miller has put the Texas Longhorns back on the college basketball map.
While doing that, he has put the Horns in the conversations for blue-chip prospects alongside blue-blood programs. Most recently, that has included keeping Texas in the hunt for five-star center Darius Wabbington, the No. 2 big man in the class of 2027.
Wabbington recently announced a cut to his list of potential schools to just six programs: the Kentucky Wildcats, Indiana Hoosiers, Louisville Cardinals, UNC Tar Heels, Arizona Wildcats, and none other than the Texas Longhorns.
That included Wabbington announcing the three official visits he had scheduled, including trips to Louisville, Arizona, and Texas.
Darius Wabbington OV schedule promising sign for Longhorns
As an Arizona native, it should come as no surprise that the Wildcats are currently the frontrunners to land his commitment. However, according to On3, the Horns are a close second, standing at 22 percent odds to Arizona's 32 percent.
- Louisville Cardinals: Sept. 11
- Arizona Wildcats: Sept. 25
- Texas Longhorns: Oct. 9
While Wabbington scheduling a visit with the Longhorns at all is great news for Miller, the fact that the Texas visit is last on his already short list is an even better sign.
Not only are the Horns one of just three teams that Wabbington will spend time with in the fall, but as the last one on his schedule, Miller and his staff have the opportunity to leave an undeniably lasting impact on the five-star center's mind.

At a towering 6-foot-11 and a whopping 245 pounds, Wabbington is already built like a collegiate big man, and with another year of high school still on the horizon, he has a chance to grow an even more imposing frame.
Of course, the Horns already boast center Matas Vokietaitis, who stands at 7-foot-0 and 255 pounds, but after an impressive sophomore season and an expectant junior year loading, he will likely head to the NBA after the coming season.
That means there will be a center-shaped hole on Miller's depth chart. One that Wabbington could fill perfectly.
Wabbington is the No. 2 center in the class of 2027 and the No. 15 overall prospect. As one of the top recruits out of Arizona, the Wildcats have been in hot pursuit of his commitment for over a year. However, less than a month after Arizona extended him an offer, Miller and the Horns followed suit.

Fresh off the No. 16 recruiting class of 2026, the Horns have yet to see a commitment come in from the class of 2027. However, if Miller could kick off the next recruiting cycle by landing a prospect like Wabbington, Texas could be well on its way to a top-15 class or better.
