Sean Miller is ensuring his recruiting efforts also benefit from Ohio State-Texas matchup

While Steve Sarkisian and the No. 4 Texas Longhorns take on the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, the football team will also host a slate of nearly three dozen blue-chip prospects, but that isn't the only burnt orange athletics program looking to reap the benefits from the massive matchup.

Sean Miller and the Longhorns' men's basketball squad are also using the game to their advantage by hosting five-star point guard Beckham Black, the No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2027.

Black, who became the No. 1 prospect in his recruiting cycle when former No. 1 Marcus Spears Jr. committed to Texas and reclassified to 2026, is set to take an official visit with the Longhorns this weekend and is expected to be in attendance as they face the Buckeyes.

There aren't many schools that have the same level of an athletic department as the Longhorns do, and that's a huge nod to AD Chris Del Conte.

However, it's also a massive upside when it comes to recruiting, even if you're using another sport's venue and matchup to create a certain allure around your team.

That's something that Miller must lean on this weekend. Not only can he boast one of the top groups in the country, but Texas can also claim elite teams across the board: a top-four football team, a top-four women's basketball team, defending National Champions in men's swimming and diving, as well as softball, and that's just to name a few.

And that pairs with the fact that Miller just brought in the No. 4 recruiting class of 2026 in the country, including blue-chip recruits like Spears and fellow five-star prospect Austin Goosby, as well as the No. 5 transfer portal class.

As of right now, Miller has yet to land a commitment from the class of 2027, and one of his top targets, five-star combo guard NaVorro Bowman Jr., just committed to the UConn Huskies before even visiting the 40 Acres.

So, a player like Black committing to Texas over the dozens of other teams that extended an offer in his direction could be the exact kind of thing the Horns need to jump-start another dominant recruiting class.

Currently, 247Sports has the Longhorns toward the front of the pack for Black's commitment, alongside teams like the Georgetown Hoyas and the Arkansas Razorbacks, the latter of which his older brother, Anthony Black, played for before heading to the NBA. However, fellow SEC powerhouses like the Auburn Tigers and Florida Gators are also considered to be in the mix.

Simply put, if this weekend goes well for Texas, it could be a huge for more than just the football team.
