5-star NaVorro Bowman Jr. has suddenly entered the 'flip target' category for Sean Miller

Less than two months ago, the Texas Longhorns and head coach Sean Miller booked an official visit for five-star combo guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. to come to the 40 Acres.

It was one of four OVs Bowman booked for the fall, including additional trips to see the UConn Huskies, Illinois Fighting Illini, and Arizona Wildcats.

Now, Bowman has taken the first of his official visits, a trip to UConn, and to the dismay of the Horns, already committed to the Huskies.

It's unclear if Bowman still plans to take the three subsequent visits this month, but one thing is certain: Miller and the Horns are now working from behind to bring the five-star prospect into their fold.

Now, instead of a clear path to Bowman as a blue-chip recruit, Texas will have to flip his commitment from the perennial Huskies if the Longhorns still want him on their roster in the future.

Bowman is the No. 11 prospect in the class of 2027 and the No. 2 combo guard in the recruiting cycle, making him a highly coveted target for powerhouse programs like Texas.

Of course, Miller has turned the Texas men's basketball team back into a premier program and has been able to land some of the top recruits because of it, including five-star prospects like Austin Goosby and Marcus Spears Jr.

The Longhorns landed the No. 4 recruiting class of 2026 and the No. 5 transfer portal class, rebuilding and rejuvenating a program that had been in an undeniable rut over the last few years. So, while the recruiting task for Bowman is now undeniably more difficult, it isn't as far of a reach as it would have been just a few years ago, before Miller took over.

However, while Bowman may be a much farther reach for the Longhorns now, there are a slew of other prospects Miller could target.

It may be time for the Longhorns to move on from NaVorro Bowman Jr.

Instead of Bowman, Texas could easily shift its focus to recruits like Adan Diggs, the No. 1 combo guard in the recruiting cycle, or King Gibson, the No. 3 CG, neither of whom has committed to a program.

Not to mention the fact that Bowman was far from the only target on Miller's radar this offseason.

Four-star shooting guard Justin Wise had openly and widely discussed his interest in the Longhorns, as has five-star center Darrius Wabbington.

So, while the Horns may have to toss up their hands in defeat over Bowman, it is far from the end of the road for Texas's recruiting efforts in the class of 2027.
