Sean Miller's recruiting tear continues with big-time move for 5-star NaVorro Bowman Jr.

Just last week, the Texas Longhorns and head coach Sean Miller booked an official visit with Beckham Black, the newly minted No. 1 prospect in the class of 2027.

Of course, Black took a bump in the rankings because the Horns landed Marcus Spears Jr., who had been the top recruit before reclassifying to 2026.

Now, Miller and his staff are making a move on yet another top-10 prospect in the next recruiting cycle: NaVorro Bowman, the No. 10 recruit in the class of 2027.

Bowman added four official visits to his calendar: one with the Longhorns, as well as trips to see the UConn Huskies, Illinois Fighting Illini, and Arizona Wildcats. These are three of the four teams that made it to the Final Four last season.

The five-star point guard is the No. 5 prospect at his position and is the No. 1 overall prospect out of California. Because of his home-state ties, the UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, and Cal Golden Bears are also in the mix for his five-star commitment, despite not scheduling an OV with Bowman at this point.

Texas Longhorns continue to compete with blue bloods on recruiting trail

Since taking over on the 40 Acres last year, Miller has brought the Texas men's basketball program back into the national conversation.

Between a Cinderella-esque run to the Sweet 16 last season, followed by a dominant showing in the transfer portal and on the recruiting trail for the class of 2026, the Horns have gone from a team that barely made the NCAA Tournament into a genuine title contender.

So far, Miller has yet to land any commitments out of the class of 2027. To be fair, very few programs have. That being said, fresh off landing the No. 4 transfer portal class and the No. 5 recruiting class of 2026, the Longhorns are undoubtedly poised to land yet another blue-chip-quality group in the next cycle.

With Spears reclassifying to 2026, the Horns are welcoming six new faces to campus this fall, including the five-star power forward, another five-star small forward in Austin Goosby, four-star shooting guard Bo Ogden, and four-star combo guard Joe Sterling.

Additionally, Miller added five four-star prospects out of the portal: power forward David Punch (TCU), point guard Isaiah Johnson (Colorado), small forward Elyjah Freeman (Auburn), shooting guard Amari Evans (Tennessee), and combo guard Mikey Lewis (Saint Mary's).

Beyond the players from whom Miller and his staff have already earned commitments, the Longhorns continue to be in the final few schools under consideration for many of the top prospects in the country, coming out on top time after time, as of late.

Simply put, Miller is doing exactly what he was hired to do: to bring in the right players and coach those players to the right place.
