Just last week, the Texas Longhorns and head coach Sean Miller landed a commitment from Marcus Spears, the then-No. 1 prospect out of the class of 2027.
Spears' commitment came in tandem with the news that he would reclassify to the class of 2026, joining the Horns for this upcoming season and leaving the No. 1 spot in his previous class vacant.

Five-star point guard Beckham Black slid into that spot, and now, he has scheduled an official visit with the Longhorns, giving Miller the opportunity to lure the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2027 to the 40 Acres... once again.
Beckham Black schedules OV with Texas Longhorns
According to 247Sports' Brandon Jenkins, Black scheduled his fall visit to Texas as well as scheduling a trip to the North Carolina Tar Heels, adding the future visits to his short list of OVs. This spring, Black visited the Georgetown Hoyas, but that was before he became the No. 1 prospect in the class and before Spears had committed to the Horns.
- Georgetown Hoyas - March 24
- Texas Longhorns - September 9
- North Carolina Tar Heels - TBD
Black, a Florida native, has received offers from 24 Division I programs, including his in-state team, the Miami Hurricanes, and blue-blood programs like the Duke Blue Devils, Kansas Jayhawks, and more.
However, despite the slew of offers from all over the country and claiming the No. 1 spot in his recruiting cycle, Black has seemingly begun to narrow his search, only scheduling the two new official visits to this calendar so far.

One big reason he is likely eying the Longhorns is the simple fact that Spears just committed to Texas, and why wouldn't the new No. 1 prospect want to follow in the footsteps of the previous No. 1?
Additionally, the Texas NIL warchest is absolutely massive, akin to Mary Poppins' bottomless bag, and a big paycheck can entice just about anyone to look in the Horns' direction.
Not to mention the fact that Miller and his staff have been on an absolute tear on the recruiting trail. Beyond landing Spears, the Longhorns brought in five other commitments from the class of 2026, earning their place as the No. 5 recruiting class in the national rankings.
Spears will join five-star small forward Austin Goosby, four-star shooting guard Bo Ogden, four-star combo guard Joe Sterling, Lithuanian point guard Mantas Laurencikas, and center Coleman Elkins as the true freshmen on the 40 Acres this season.
Furthermore, Miller also landed the No. 4 transfer portal class, with commitments from four-star transfers: small forward Elyjah Freeman (Auburn), power forward David Punch (TCU), shooting guard Amari Evans (Tennessee), point guard Isaiah Johnson (Colorado), and combo guard Mikey Lewis (Saint Mary's).

To put all of that into layman's terms, Miller has built the Longhorns into a genuine national title contender, and that could last for a few years, especially if No. 1 recruits like Spears and Black continue to commit to Texas.
