Sean Miller’s transfer portal recruiting streak is frustrating deep-pocket teams

Texas head coach Sean Miller has been on a recruiting tear. Yet, a recent NIL report shows that he doesn't have to spend a lot to bring players in.

Players want to play for Sean Miller. It's that simple. Since taking over the Texas Longhorns, Miller has brought in four of the top transfer portal commitments this year, including two of his former players from Xavier.

However, unlike a lot of other collegiate programs and coaches, Miller hasn't had to unload millions of NIL dollars to convince players to come to Texas.

Sean Miller keeps stacking transfer wins without breaking NIL banks

Currently, Miller and the Horns have the No. 3 transfer portal class in the nation, with four 4-star recruits committing to Texas since he took over the program a month ago. On the other side, Miller has only lost two players to the portal so far, former Texas small forward Devon Pryer and shooting guard Malik Presley.

Arguably, the most notable part of his transfer portal class is that Miller has achieved this feat without breaking the bank.

A recent report shared estimates of the 10 college basketball programs that have shelled out the most money on transfer portal players this offseason. Texas was nowhere to be found, but Miller's former program, Xavier, did earn a spot at No. 10.

  1. Michigan 8.8 million (No. 2 transfer portal class)
  2. Kentucky 7.6m (No. 1 TP class)
  3. Maryland 7.1m
  4. Miami 7.1m
  5. Iowa 6.6m
  6. Virginia 6.2m
  7. Washington 5.9m
  8. Creighton 5.6m
  9. Georgetown 5.5m
  10. Xavier 5.5m

Who has Sean Miller recruited to Texas?

  • Camden Heide - Purdue - Small forward
  • Dailyn Swain - Xavier - Small forward
  • Lassina Traore - Xavier - Power forward
  • Matas Vokietaitis - Florida Atlantic - Center

Swain was a consistent starter for Miller at Xavier, and while Traore didn't play due to injury, he is a player with an extremely high ceiling.

Vokietaitis was the AAC Freshman of the Year for the Florida Atlantic Owls, and he creates a problem in the paint for opponents. Heide turned into a starter for Purdue last season and contributed 4.7 points while averaging under 20 minutes per game.
