After just one season in the SEC and just one year under head coach Jim Schlossnagle, the Texas baseball team captured the regular-season conference title and stormed to the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament.

When the regular season ended, with the Texas Longhorns earning a series win over their rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners, the Horns earned a handful of conference accolades, further cementing the team as the best in the SEC.

Jim Schlossnagle named SEC Coach of the Year

After leaving his mark in College Station with the Texas A&M Aggies, Schlossnagle was named as the latest head coach of the Longhorns, leaving Texas's rival for his new burnt orange garb. Now, after just one season with Texas, Schlossnagle was already named the conference Coach of the Year, following the Horns' 42-11 overall record and 22-8 record against SEC opponents.

During his brief three-year tenure with the Aggies, he led Texas A&M to a 135-62 overall record, and the team finished as World Series runners-up at the end of the 2024 season. Before coaching the Aggies, Schlossnagle spent 18 seasons as the TCU Horned Frogs' head coach, earning a 734-343 record and meeting the Longhorns' current athletic director, Chris Del Conte, who hired him at Texas.

Dylan Volantis named SEC Freshman of the Year

Dylan Volantis is one of the many young talents on the Horns' baseball roster, and now, he is officially the best freshman in the SEC.

As a relief pitcher, Volantis earned 12 saves, four wins, and zero losses. He held batters to a minimal 1.66 ERA as he allowed just 27 hits and 10 runs, while pitching a resounding 64 strikeouts. Despite being just a freshman, Volantis pitched for 43.1 innings throughout Texas's 53 regular-season games.

The Longhorns' postseason will begin in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament on Thursday, May 22. Texas will face the winner of the second-round matchup between Tennessee and Alabama, who is coming off a first-round victory over Missouri.
