Under first-year head coach Jim Schlossnagle, the Texas Longhorns are heading in the right direction despite dropping their first game of the season. After losing to Louisville in its season opener, the Texas baseball team found its footing and blew through its next two opponents to capture the title at the Shriners Children's College Showdown.

Now, sitting at 2-1 overall, Texas has risen in the rankings from No. 19 in the country to No. 16 after securing dominant wins over the Ole Miss Rebels and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Texas baseball shuts out Ole Miss 10-0

For the first time this season (and hopefully not the last), the Longhorns shut out their opponent and run-ruled the Ole Miss Rebels in a dominant 10-0 victory. Right fielder Max Belyeu led the team with three RBIs as center fielder Will Gasparino and second baseman Ethan Mendoza contributed two RBIs a piece.

Luke Harrison pitched for 6.1 innings and allowed just two hits by the Rebels while earning six strikeouts. Relief pitcher Thomas Burns came in for the final two outs of the game as Texas' bullpen dominated Ole Miss' offensive attempts.

Horns' bats remain hot in 14-8 win over OK State

While the Longhorn pitching staff wasn't quite as dominant against Oklahoma State as it was against Ole Miss, Texas' white-hot batting continued into their final game of the tournament.

Belyeu was on fire once again as he smacked out four hits for two RBIs. Gasparino had a career game agains the OSU Cowboys as he earned four RBIs on just two hits, including a two-run homer during the fifth inning. Behind three home runs and two doubles, the Texas offense blew past Oklahoma State to secure the 14-8 victory and the tournament championship.

Texas' 2025 baseball season will continue when the Horns host the Houston Cougars on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
