Steve Sarkisian continues game-day recruiting push with 4-star Kameron McGee

Over the past week, one recruit after another has announced his schedule for game-day visits to either the handful of schools on his list or the team he is committed to.

That has included the Texas Longhorns for a slew of top prospects as head coach Steve Sarkisian pushes to land new commitments or further cement others.

With Texas commits Easton Royal and Ismael Camara both coming to town in Week 2, when the Horns host the Ohio State Buckeyes, Sarkisian and his staff are also preparing to host top recruits from the class after them.

Now, five-star edge rusher Kameron McGee will be on the 40 Acres when the Longhorns and Buckeyes clash, adding yet another drop of pressure for Texas's recruiting staff.

McGee is the No. 6 edge in the class of 2028, the No. 18 overall prospect in the cycle, and the No. 2 recruit out of Illinois. He already holds a slew of offers from powerhouse programs across the country, and he now has four game-day visits on his calendar:

• Florida State Seminoles - Sept. 7 - Florida State - vs. SMU Mustangs
• Texas Longhorns - Sept. 12 - vs. Ohio State Buckeyes
• Oregon Ducks - Oct. 10 - vs. UCLA Bruins
• Georgia Bulldogs - Oct. 17 - Auburn Tigers

These will be his first trips to Texas and Florida State, but will be his second trips to both Oregon and Georgia, having made 14 total visits so far in his recruiting process.

Texas should lean on current commits to entice new recruits

While the actual job of recruiting prospects to Texas is obviously the job of the recruiting staff, it isn't entirely their burden.

Current commits, such as Camara and Royal, can be relied on to entice fellow recruits to their future program, something that has seen an uptick in involvement across social media platforms. And it has been working, too.

When McGee comes to town, the current Longhorns and future Texas stars have to ensure that he and any other uncommitted top recruits (or those committed to another program) feel as at home as possible, giving them every reason to want to wear burnt orange instead of any other jersey color.

So far, Sarkisian has landed just one recruit from the class of 2028, but it was a big one. Four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence committed to the Horns over dozens of other Power Conference teams, including the Miami Hurricanes, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, and more.

Hopefully, an impressive game-day visit for McGee could have him following in Lawrence's footsteps, committing to the Horns over the other elite teams who have extended him an offer.
