Steve Sarkisian may have already locked in on his next Trevor Goosby

After this season, the Texas Longhorns will wave goodbye to fourth-year offensive tackle Trevor Goosby, a constant presence on an always-fluctuating offensive line.

While the Horns and head coach Steve Sarkisian have depth at the position, with players like Jordan Coleman, John Turntine III, and more backing up Goosby, they don't have anyone who screams star power the way Goosby does.

However, Sarkisian may have already set his sights on a second "Trevor Goosby" in the making.

Four-star offensive tackle Austin Attalah recently announced his top three schools under consideration. The Longhorns were front and center, quite literally, alongside the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the USC Trojans.

The No. 14 prospect in the class of 2028, Attalah is the No. 3 offensive tackle and the top recruit out of California. Unsurprisingly, he included his home state's team among his three finalists. Despite it being extremely early in his recruiting process, he still included the Horns in his top three without having visited the 40 Acres yet.

Attalah has visited the Trojans three times, and has even made a trip to Lubbock to spend time with the Red Raiders. He has yet to schedule a visit with the Horns, but Sarkisian still has his team in the conversation to land the offensive tackle's four-star commitment.

That speaks volumes to the work Sarkisian is putting in on the recruiting trail. It also serves as a reminder to the weight that the Texas football brand carries around the country.

Even as the Longhorns have struggled with a questionable offensive line over the last few years, blue-chip prospects still want to suit up for Texas, looking to stars like Goosby as role models at the collegiate level.

Now, none of this is to say that Attalah would slip into a starting role on his first day with the Longhorns. As a soon-to-be-senior in high school, he's still relatively undersized at just 290 pounds, despite standing 6-foot-7.

For comparison, Goosby is also 6-foot-7, but weighs a whopping 325 pounds. Similarly, Texas's right tackle, Melvin Siani, stands at 6-foot-6 and clocks in at 313 pounds.

However, with another season of high school football still on the horizon, Attalah has plenty of time to pack on the necessary weight for him to succeed at the next level. Not to mention that he would likely play an understudy role during his true freshman season, just like Goosby did.

In 2023, Goosby only played in two games for the Longhorns, making his freshman debut against the Rice Owls and also checking in for a few snaps against the Kansas Jayhawks during his true-freshman season.

Ultimately, Attalah has yet to commit to any of the three programs and hasn't even set a commitment date. However, it certainly looks like Sarkisian is eying his next "Trevor Goosby" in the making.
