Just a few days ago, the Texas Longhorns announced that they and head coach Steve Sarkisian had named Chad Scott as their newest running backs coach. Now, Scott is already making an impact on Texas' recruiting campaign.
Four-star running back Ezavier Crowell shared on social media that he had "a great conversation" with Scott and, following the discussion, had decided to take an official visit to Texas.
Crowell is the No. 6 running back in the class of 2026 and has offers from some of the top programs in the nation including his home-state teams; the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. While experts at On3 still expect Crowell to commit to the Crimson Tide, a visit with the Horns might be able to turn the running back's head.
Before joining Sarkisian's staff in the middle of February, Scott held the same position at West Virginia and acted as the interim head coach for the WVU Mountaineers for their last game of the 2024 season.
Prior to Scott's work and conversation with Crowell, the Longhorn running backs were led by RBs coach Tashard Choice who was poached by the NFL's Detroit Lions. Scott's impact has been felt immediately as he continues the in-progress recruiting process of athletes like Crowell.
Texas currently has the No. 1 class of 2025 commits but only has three commitments from the class of 2026, landing the Horns at No. 9 in the recruiting rankings for that year.
It is clear that Crowell has become a focus of Scott's work during the offseason but he isn't the only running back that the Texas coach has his sights set on. The Longhorns are also working to bring in Texas native KJ Edwards (4-star) and Derrek Cooper (FL) who is the No. 2 running back in the class.
