Over the last few months, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has kept himself busy on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal.

Now, an already elite Longhorn roster has been solidified and deepened with blue-chip additions like transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman, five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson, and more.

As the Horns have run through their first week of summer practice, Sarkisian has been impressed by what he has seen, and he couldn't help but say as much when talking about his current roster.

"I feel like we have top-level talent on both sides of the ball," Sarkisian said. "This team feels really complete to me."

Texas Longhorns are set to compete at the top level

Sarkisian's class of 2026 ranked 10th in the nation and fifth in the SEC. The Horns are just a year removed from bringing in the No. 1 class in the country.

Additionally, Texas landed a top-10 transfer portal class, highlighted by Coleman, former Pitt linebacker Rasheem Biles, former Wake Forest offensive tackle Melvin Siani, and more.

Now, with the class of 2025 a little less green, starting quarterback Arch Manning a little more settled, and both sides of the ball with a little extra juice, the Longhorns are undeniably primed to take the next step toward ultimate glory.

Since Sarkisian took over the Texas football program in 2021, he has led the Horns to two College Football Playoff appearances, including a run to the CFP semifinals just two seasons ago.

However, the Longhorns fell short of reaching the National Championship game on both occasions, leaving the team and its fans wanting a lot more out of the program and its head coach.

Texas football records since Steve Sarkisian took over

  • 2025: 10-3 overall (6-2 SEC), win over Michigan in Cheez-It Citrus Bowl
  • 2024, 13-3 overall (7-1 SEC), loss to Georgia in SEC Championship, win over Clemson in CFP First Round, win over Arizona State in CFP Quarterfinal, loss to Ohio State in CFP Semifinal
  • 2023: 12-2 overall (8-1 Big 12), win over Oklahoma State in Big 12 Championship, loss to Washington in CFP Semifinal
  • 2022: 8-5 overall (6-3 Big 12), loss to Washington in Valero Alamo Bowl
  • 2021: 5-7 overall (3-6 Big 12)

While there has been an undeniable improvement in Texas's in-season performances (the Longhorns are a far cry from a team with a 5-7 overall record and a losing record in Big 12 play), at a program like that of the Longhorns, a National Championship is the expectation.

This year, the expectations looming overhead are as large as ever for the Horns, but with how Sarkisian is talking about his team, it sounds like they might be up to the task.
