The Texas Longhorns have always had a premiere athletic department. Continuously winning the Capitol One Cup, given to the program with the most points based on national championships, the Horns are an (almost) unstoppable force to be reckoned with.
This season, as the Texas football team continues to battle through the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoffs, Steve Sarkisian's squad isn't the only Longhorn program to write home about.
The No. 3 Longhorn football team is joined by seven other Texas programs ranked within the top 10 of their sport βΒ in fact, they're all ranked within the top seven.
Topping the rankings are the Texas men's swimming and diving team and the men's golf team. The Longhorns have had a dominant swimming and diving program for nearly a century, with fifteen national titles for the men's team and nine for the women's side of the program, who are currently ranked at No. 2 in the country.
With one national title (2019) and 22 combined conference titles (Big 12 and Southwest), the Texas men's tennis team has also been a dominant force over the last few decades.
The men's and women's golf programs are currently tied with a No. 5 ranking on the national standings, with the National Championship tournaments coming up at the end of May. The Longhorn women's basketball team has dominated its early season games and the beginning of SEC play to also earn a spot at No. 5 in the country.
Last but certainly not least, the Longhorns women's tennis team fought through incredibly difficult matchups to earn a No. 7 ranking in the country following the fall NCAA Championships that took place in November.
The Longhorns quest for their first football national titles since Vince Young and Mack Brown brought it home in 2005 continues on Friday, Jan. 10 when Texas faces the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl Game.
