After a late-night brawl with the Oregon Ducks, the Texas Longhorns are headed back to the College World Series for the first time since 2022, and their first opponent is a doozy.
The Horns will face the Georgia Bulldogs, who are fresh off their championship run in the SEC Tournament and are currently on an eight-game winning streak.
Unsurprisingly, as two of the top teams still remaining in the NCAA Tournament and arguably the two best-performing teams heading into Omaha, the Longhorns and the Bulldogs were given the primetime slot for their first-round matchup in the CWS.
2026 College World Series opening weekend schedule
Games 1 and 2 will take place on Friday, June 12, followed by Games 3 and 4 on Saturday, June 13. Due to weather delays in their Super Regionals, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners had to wait until Monday afternoon to punch their tickets to Omaha.

Texas and Georgia didn't face each other in the regular season or in the SEC Tournament this year, but they did share a diamond in Texas's first season in the conference. Last year, the last time the two teams met, the Horns swept the Dawgs, securing 5-1, 7-4, and 4-3 victories over Georgia.

The Bulldogs may be on a hot streak, but the Longhorns are one of their own as well. While Texas's run through the SEC Tournament was ended as quickly as it started, losing to Arkansas in the Horns' first game, head coach Jim Schlossnagle has since righted a slightly askew ship.
Texas is on a five-game winning streak, earning victories over Holy Cross, Tarleton State, and UC Santa Barbara in the Regional round, and winning two straight games over Oregon in the Super Regional.
Now, both of the SEC teams' win streaks will be put to the test as they face each other in the College World Series.
The winner will advance to a second game, but the other team will drop to the losers' bracket, forced to keep their season alive in the double-elimination round of the CWS. In other words, if Texas suffers two losses in Omaha, whether they be consecutive losses or not, the Horns' season would end.
