Even with the loss of star players like outfielder Aiden Robbins and catcher Carson Tinney, the Texas baseball roster is starting to look like a team worthy of another run to the College World Series.
Most recently, head coach Jim Schlossnagle landed a commitment from Trevor Goldenetz, an outfielder who entered the transfer portal after playing his true-freshman season at Long Beach State.
Never heard of Goldenetz? You aren't necessarily alone.

Despite earning a place as an opening-day starter for Long Beach, Goldenetz flew almost entirely under the radar after entering the portal. After immediately becoming a starter, Goldenetz's freshman season was unfortunately cut short due to injury.
However, even with the nearly month and a half that the outfielder was stuck in the dugout, Goldenetz earned a .369 batting average in 111 at-bats. He walked more times than he struck out, and racked up 41 hits for 12 RBIs, and even earned 26 runs of his own.
On the defensive side of things, he produced a .987 fielding percentage, committing just one error in his 75 game appearances. After missing most of April and the beginning of May, Goldenetz returned to Long Beach's rotation to close out the season in a game against Cal Poly.
Jim Schlossnagle continues to tap transfer portal for offensive depth
Of course, just a year ago, Schlossnagle was equally busy in the portal, picking up the likes of Robbins and Tinney, who each spent just one season with the Horns before taking their talent to the MLB Draft this year.
While neither was quite as underrated as Goldenetz, they were just the start of Schlossnagle showing how good he was at spying talent in the portal. Not to mention, Goldenetz is far from the first transfer prospect to commit to the Horns, and joins an already elite outfield roster in Austin.
Former Texas Tech shortstop Linkin Garcia was the first transfer to commit to Schlossnagle's program and will likely play third base for the Horns next season. Former Kent State outfielder Sawyer Solitaria made one of the biggest portal headlines when he committed to UT.
Then, former Saint Mary's catcher Ian Armstrong joined the group transferring to Texas, followed last, but certainly not least, by Goldenetz's commitment.
While a lot of the returning Longhorns will most likely either 1) maintain their starting role or 2) slide into a starting job, the additions from the transfer portal do nothing but make the overall roster strong, adding more depth and talent to a team that continues to improve with every season under Schlossnagle.
Additionally, Schlossnagle landed the No. 4 recruiting class of 2026, and before the 2026 MLB Draft takes place, that included 21 prospects joining the Horns ahead of next season.

Of course, the Longhorns still have yet to return to the College World Series final since 2009, when Augie Garrido was still the head coach on the 40 Acres. However, things are undeniably trending in the right direction for Texas.
