Jackson State offensive lineman Mason Barton will officially be on campus today as the coaching staff works to see if he'll be a good fit for Texas and Steve Sarkisian's offense.

Barton, who just finished up his sophomore season at Jackson State, played everywhere along the offensive line at some point for the FCS team. He's logged snaps at center, guard, and tackle for the Tigers throughout his first two years there.

Though he wasn't a full-time starter in 2025, he played over 300 snaps and gained valuable experience on one of the most productive offenses at the FCS level. He played more offensive tackle as a sophomore this season, and that's where he'll most likely stay if he commits to Texas.

He has excellent length and is built pretty well, which is why the Longhorns are most likely interested in him as a developmental offensive tackle for the future. Being "raw" doesn't scare the coaching staff, and he'll definitely have time to grow and learn behind Trevor Goosby and Brandon Baker in 2026.

Barton could end up being a pretty good player under Kyle Flood, especially if he works on his overall technique in pass protection. He sometimes lunges or reaches for defenders instead of using patience and allowing the pass rusher to make the first move. His hand placement also needs some work, but those things are fixable with good coaching.

Barton would join incoming transfers Jonte Newman and Dylan Sikorski if he decides to make the move to Texas, and those three players would give the Longhorns a bright future along the offensive line.
