Texas A&M OT Jonte Newman just announced that he's transferring to Texas, and it's a huge win for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns.

Newman, a 4-star OT recruit from the 2025 class, is built like a tank at 6'4", 330 lbs. and should be able to contribute right away in Austin.

He's got the body type and skillset of an offensive guard but the length of an offensive tackle so it'll be interesting to see where Texas OL coach Kyle Flood decides to play him. Newman redshirted in 2025, as he only played in one game for a total of 7 offensive snaps on the year.

He's understandably pretty raw from a technical standpoint, so it's crucial that he gets to Austin and starts training as soon as possible. Despite being so young, there's a good chance that he'll see legitimate game action in 2026 as a member of the two-deep. The simple fact that the Longhorns are so thin along the offensive line right now could even cause the team to give him snaps with the first-team unit throughout the spring and summer at offensive guard.

The Longhorns' depth took an enormous hit yesterday when Nick Brooks decided to transfer out, so this move comes as a pretty big sigh of relief from everybody involved with Texas football.

There also continues to be a chance that Colorado offensive tackle Jordan Seaton transfers in, and if that happens, Newman's arrival gives the team an incredibly intriguing depth option with four years of eligibility remaining.
