Ex-Texas football redshirt freshman transfer outside linebacker/edge rusher Derion Gullette has signed with the Mississippi State Bulldogs, per On3's Pete Nakos. This news comes just a few days after Gullette took a visit to Starkville to see Mississippi State and head coach Jeff Lebby on Dec. 15.
Second-year Texas football OLB/EDGE Derion Gullette transfers within the SEC to Mississippi State
Gullette also had interest from the Ole Miss Rebels and North Carolina Tar Heels in the portal for the winter transfer window.
The 6-foot-3 and 235-pound outside linebacker spent two seasons at Texas, appearing in five games this fall for the Longhorns. He registered two combined tackles and two defensive stops in 2024. Gullette registered defensive snaps in three games this season, against Colorado State, UTSA, and UL-Monroe.
He also got snaps on special teams with the kickoff coverage unit in four games, including against the Oklahoma Sooners and Florida Gators in SEC play.
Gullette didn't play any games for the Longhorns during his true freshman campaign in 2023, due to the rehab process from a knee injury he suffered before his senior season in high school.
Signing with the Longhorns' 2023 recruiting class, Gullette was a top-150 prospect from Teague (TX) High School. He ranked as the No. 121 recruit nationally in the 2023 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 18 edge rusher, and No. 22 from Texas.
He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Gullette is the third former Longhorns player to find a new home via the portal for this upcoming offseason. He is also the second former Longhorns player to transfer to another SEC school, along with new Vanderbilt Commodores redshirt sophomore defensive tackle signee Aaron Bryant.
