Former Texas football redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Aaron Bryant has committed to the Vanderbilt Commodores and head coach Clark Lea, he announced in a post on his X account on Dec. 17. This news comes roughly one week after Bryant had originally announced his intentions to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal for the winter window on Dec. 9.
The first Texas football transfer to find his new home in the portal is new Vandy DT commit Aaron Bryant
Bryant played 13 games over three seasons at Texas, registering two combined tackles and two defensive stops.
This season, Bryant didn't play a very big role for the Longhorns' defensive front. After taking a career-high 51 defensive snaps in 2023, Bryant's snaps dropped under two dzoen for the Longhorns this fall.
Bryant played at least a half dozen defensive snaps for the Longhorns in the regular season in Week 1 against Colorado State, the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma, and Week 11 against Florida.
He is the fourth transfer to commit to Vandy in this portal cycle, including former Virginia Tech offensive lineman Gunnar Givens and Alabama edge rusher Keanu Koht.
He was a four-star recruit from Southaven (MS) High School who signed with the Longhorns in the 2022 recruiting class. Texas's 2022 signing class ranked top five nationally for that cycle in the 247Sports Composite.
Bryant ranked as the No. 391 prospect nationally in the 2022 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 52 defensive lineman, and No. 11 from Mississippi.
Texas has experienced heavy roster attrition with the transfer portal along the defensive line for the upcoming offseason in the winter portal window. Bryant, redshirt sophomore Jaray Bledsoe, redshirt freshman Sydir Mitchell, and senior Tia Savea are the four defensive tackles the Longhorns have lost to the transfer portal in the past week or so.
