The Longhorns just gained a commitment from one of the top pure point guards in this year's transfer portal, and Sean Miller and Co. are absolutely ecstatic. Isaiah Johnson, one of the best true freshmen from 2025/2026 and one of the Big 12's top offensive players last year has officially made the decision to take his talents to Texas for the upcoming season.

The 6'1", 180-pound point guard averaged 16.9 PPG, 3.0 APG, 2.9 RPG, and 1.0 SPG last season while shooting 48.6% from the floor and 37.8% from the three-point line.

Johnson was the No.3-ranked point guard in the transfer portal, and he had every school you could possibly think of after him. Kentucky was doing everything they could to get him to commit over the past couple days but he ultimately chose the Longhorns in the end.

With Tramon Mark, Jordan Pope, Simeon Wilcher, and Chendall Weaver all leaving the program this offseason, Sean Miller was desperate to add a top-tier point guard to build around. Needless to say, Miller was able to get his guy and I'm sure it's costing Texas quite a bit of NIL money to do so.

Johnson's the type of player who can take over a game if given the chance, and the Longhorns have been missing that type of weapon in the backcourt for a while now. The team still has to add at least one more high-end player in the portal now that Dailyn Swain declared for the 2026 NFL Draft as well. Instead of adding a "big name" shooting guard, the team might choose to rely on incoming freshman Austin Goosby at the 2, and go after after an elite small forward over the next week or so as Swain replacement.
