Texas spring football is officially underway and a few newcomers have joined the Longhorns on the field in Austin. Ahead of their first practice with the Longhorns, some of the early enrollees gave fans a sneak peek of the jerseys they would be wearing during the upcoming season.

From quarterback KJ Lacey to edge rusher Lance Jackson, the newest members of the Texas football team shared images of their practice jerseys as anticipation built ahead of their freshman year.

New Texas football jersey numbers

  • No. 2 - Jaime Ffrench
  • No. 8 - KJ Lacey
  • No. 11 - Michael Terry III
  • No. 15 - Justus Terry
  • No. 17 - Daylan McCutcheon
  • No. 30 - Elijah Barnes
  • No. 40 - Lance Jackson
  • No. 85 - Emaree Winston

Five-star prospect and the No. 2 all-around athlete in the class of 2025, Michael Terry III, even went as far as to change his X (formerly Twitter) profile picture to his new burnt orange jersey.

According to On3, Texas has the No. 1 recruiting class (2025) in the country, followed by the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. However, the Longhorns' class of 2026 recruits is currently sitting at No. 10 in the country, well behind the mark of its 2025 class.

This offseason, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Horns announced that they would not hold their annual Orange and White spring football game, stating concerns about player retention and well-being with such a short practice window in the spring.

“I just don’t know rolling the ball out, playing the game when we only get 15 practices is the best for us to maximize the opportunities we get,” Sarkisian said.

Texas isn't the only Power Four program to cancel its spring game. The Longhorns joined the USC Trojans, Ohio State Buckeyes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and others in the cancellation of the event. Meanwhile, programs like the Oregon Ducks, led by head coach Dan Lanning, have vowed to always keep their spring game around.

The Horns are scheduled to kick off their 2025 season with an away game in Columbus, OH, where Texas will look to exact revenge on the Ohio State Buckeyes, who knocked them out of the College Football Playoffs last season.
