Texas HC Sean Miller’s biggest transfer portal need is crystal clear

If the Longhorns are going to have another successful year in 2026/2027, then they need to shore up one specific spot.

After adding the likes of Dailyn Swain, Matas Vokietaitis, Lassina Traore, Cam Heide, and Simeon Wilcher in last year's transfer portal, there only seems to be one glaring "need" on Texas' roster heading into this year's portal period.

With Tramon Mark, Jordan Pope, and Chendall Weaver all out of eligibility now, the team has to bring in multiple experienced guards this month in order to replace these incredibly key members of the team in 2026/2027.

Players like Mark and Pope were astronomically vital to the team's success throughout the NCAA Tournament, and that's because Sean Miller's offense runs through the backcourt for the most part, especially during the regular season.

God forbid, if Dailyn Swain were to transfer out for some reason or declare for the 2026 NBA Draft, the Longhorns would also have to find a productive wing to help stop the bleeding there as well. Overall, it seems pretty obvious that the backcourt absolutely needs to be the focal point of this season's transfer portal for Sean Miller and Co.

Yes, true freshmen guards Austin Goosby, Joe Sterling, and Bo Ogden are coming in this offseason, but experience is what Texas' coaching staff could be after over the next couple of weeks. The team could end up dropping some serious NIL money on a top-tier point guard or combo guard immediately after the portal officially opens on April 7th.

There are a few players who seemingly fit the mold of a Sean Miller guard in this year's portal class, such as USF's Wes Enis, Toledo's Leroy Blyden Jr., and Colorado's Isaiah Johnson.

Whoever the Longhorns decide to bring in will undoubtedly be relied on heavily next season, so Coach Miller knows he can't take things lightly when it comes to analyzing potential transfers.
