While things might not be going according to plan for the Texas football program, the men's basketball team and Longhorns head coach Sean Miller are already thriving, and the regular season still has yet to actually tipoff.
Miller, while simultaneously preparing for an extremely promising season, has continued his recruiting tear with an effort to attract four-star combo guard Tai Bell.
Bell, a blue-chip prospect out of the Miami area, is the No. 22 overall recruit in the class of 2028 and the No. 4 point guard in the class. With offers from nearly three dozen schools, he has only scheduled two official visits so far: to Arizona State and Ole Miss, but the Horns are undeniably making an impact.
"Things are great with the Longhorns… It meant a lot that they showed up four deep to my games," Bell told Texas insider Jalen Brown.

Fresh off landing the No. 4 overall class of 2026, Miller and the Horns immediately turned their attention to the upcoming classes, and while they have yet to land a commitment from prospects in the 2027 or 2028 cycles, Texas is trending in the right direction.
It's time for Sean Miller to land his next big-time recruit
That being said, there have been a handful of big-name recruits that Texas has swung and missed on, including four-star shooting Justin Wise and five-star center Darius Wabbington, two blue-chip prospects from the class of 2027 who committed to other teams.
So, it may be well past time for Miller and his staff to finally land their first commitment from the next cycle or two. The good news is that Bell isn't the only elite prospect appreciating the recruiting effort coming out of the 40 Acres.
That includes five-star point guard Beckham Black, who became the No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2027 once five-star forward Marcus Spears Jr. committed to none other than the Longhorns and reclassified to 2026.
Black is reportedly leaning most heavily toward Texas and the Arkansas Razorbacks right now, according to 247Sports' recruiting evaluations.
For the class of 2028, the Horns are also seeing some favorability for five-star small forward Evan Willis and four-star shooting guard Jordan Mize.
For now, none of the players that Texas has offered have set decision dates, but Miller and his staff could very likely be flying toward their first commitment from either recruiting cycle. And with the season just around the corner, a win or two could greatly benefit the Horns' recruiting effort.
After playing an exhibition game against the St. John's Red Storm on Sunday, Oct. 25, the Texas men's basketball team will tipoff its regular season with a home game against the Chicago State Cougars on Monday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. CT.
