The Texas Longhorns are almost always good in at least one sport per year. Whether it's the national powerhouse volleyball program, the perennial football team, or another sport, the Horns are continuously the talk of the town (and the country).
However, not many people imagined that this athletic season would entail quite as much success for the Longhorns as they have seen so far.
At this point in the year, Texas is one of just three schools that found themselves in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament, the College Football Playoffs, the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament, and the Women's NCAA Tournament.
The other two? The Oregon Ducks and the Tennessee Volunteers. If you base it on teams that appeared in the second round of the CFPs, Texas and Oregon are the only two teams to earn that distinction. If you base it on teams that went to the CFP semifinals, it's only Texas.
Texas volleyball made a run to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Creighton. The Ducks lasted the same length in the tournament before losing to Pittsburgh. Tennessee lost to Georgia Tech in the first round.
The football team defeated Clemson and Arizona State in the Playoffs before losing to the eventual national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Tennessee and Oregon lost to the Buckeyes in the first and second rounds, respectively, of the CFPs.
Women's basketball earned a No. 1 seed after making a run in the SEC Tournament to the conference title game, where the Horns lost to South Carolina. The men's team earned a No. 11 seed which the Longhorns will have to defend in their First Four matchup against Xavier.
The Tennessee men hold a No. 2 seed and the women have a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Oregon has a No. 5 seed in the men's bracket and the Ducks have a No. 10 seed in the women's tournament.
The men's First Four will start on Tuesday, March 18, and the Horns' first game will tip off at 8:10 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 19. The Texas women will tip off their first-round matchup at 8:45 p.m. on March 20.
