The blue chip WR from the Dallas area has seemingly shifted his focus to the Longhorns recently.

Over the past week or so, the vibe around Briceson Thrower Jr.'s recruitment has shifted, with his top schools now seeming like Texas and Illinois. The 4-star wide receiver from North Forney High School (Forney, TX) has been unofficially visiting quite a few schools this year, but rumors have begun to swirl suggesting that his commitment is the Longhorns' to lose heading into the summer.

A couple of recruiting experts have also put him down as a crystal ball for Texas, further adding legitimacy to the speculation.

Steve Sarkisian and Texas’ offensive staff were sold immediately

Texas WR Coach Chris Jackson has been Thrower's main point of contact in Austin, and the two parties have developed a pretty strong relationship over the past year or so. The Longhorns first saw Thrower during a summer camp in June of last year, and they offered him a scholarship on the spot.

This is a nice example of how Steve Sarkisian and Co. felt about him and his overall skillset early on in the process.

Thrower Jr. is known for two things right now: His hands and his route-running ability. It's pretty safe to say that those are two incredibly fundamental aspects of playing the position at a high level.

He's not going to consistently outrun defensive backs on vertical routes, but he'll be able to create tons of separation in the short to intermediate levels of the field early on in his collegiate career.

He's incredibly twitched-up and does a lot of the more nuanced things correctly, such as having refined head and shoulder fakes when breaking on digs and whip routes. Thrower's also very good at adjusting his body when the ball's in the air, consistently showing late hands and tracking the football all the way in.

To be 100% honest, the only thing the Longhorns have to worry about right now is the simple fact that he's still being recruited heavily by the Fighting Illini and Texas A&M. Though the actual date hasn't been confirmed yet, there's a sweeping feeling that Thrower's planning to commit on or around July 17th.

His official visit to Texas is currently set for June 15th, but he also has OV's locked in with Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Illinois before then. If Chris Jackson can manage to get him past those visits without swaying one way or another, the Longhorns should be in a good spot.

If Thrower Jr. does end up committing to Texas, he'd be their 11th total commit in the 2027 cycle, and the fifth-highest rated commit in the class. As mentioned in a previous article, the wide receiver position is a fairly large "need" in the upcoming class, so adding someone like Throwoer Jr. would be excellent for the Longhorns.
